The Academy
A digital university for human capability.
The Academy is not a library of videos. It is a curriculum, ordered as a university: Schools that contain Programs, Programs that contain Courses, Courses that contain Modules, and Modules that contain Lessons — each designed to move a student from vocabulary to mastery.
Why the Academy exists
To develop capable individuals through rigorous, interdisciplinary education that advances the ability to think clearly, act wisely, and steward resources responsibly.
Every school below is an expression of that single mission.

What a Lesson contains
Every Lesson at the Academy is composed of ten forms of instruction. No single modality is asked to do the work of the others.
Recorded instruction, taught by a working practitioner.
Written exposition of the concept, referenced and citable.
Diagrams, schematics, and figures that render the idea legible.
A working model the student can operate to build intuition.
A short assessment of comprehension before advancing.
A hands-on exercise in which the student produces something real.
Applied work, submitted and reviewed for structure and rigor.
Written response — what the student now understands, and does not.
Primary and secondary sources beyond the lesson itself.
Terminal work that binds the module into a single artifact.
The Credential Ladder
Every Program awards its credential at one of five levels. The ladder is the same across the seven Schools; the standard rises with each rung.
The vocabulary and orientation of the field.
Reliable execution of the field's core operations.
Independent judgment in the ordinary case.
Judgment in the difficult case, and instruction of others.
Advancement of the field beyond its present frontier.

- Greek, ἀνάβασις. An ascent; a journey inland from the sea.
- Inspired by Xenophon's account of disciplined endurance against overwhelming odds, Anabasis represents the continual advancement of human capability through adversity, learning, and purposeful action.
- Capability
- What a person can, in fact, do — in the world, under pressure, over time.
- Capability is not credential, nor aspiration, nor rhetoric. It is the composite of skills, judgment, and character that produces real outcomes. We regard it as the compounding asset of the species.
- The Six Capabilities
- Health, Knowledge, Capital, Technology, Leadership, Character.
- The working anatomy of a capable human being. Each is a domain of investment; together they constitute the practical definition of a life prepared to build.
- Stewardship
- Responsibility for what one did not personally create and will not personally keep.
- Stewardship is the default posture of Anabasis leadership. It replaces ownership as the organizing concept of authority: the institution is held in trust for those who come next.
- The Charter
- Anabasis's bound source of truth.
- The Charter gathers Philosophy, Manifesto, Constitution, Principles, and Doctrines into a single volume that governs how the institution thinks, writes, designs, and decides.
- Marginalia
- Notes in the margin.
- The short definitions, citations, and asides that accompany the main text throughout Anabasis publications. Marginalia are meant to be read slowly, and to reward re-reading.
- The Academy
- Anabasis's digital university.
- The Academy is organized as seven Schools, each pursuing one dimension of capability with the depth, permanence, and standards of a university rather than a platform.

- Scholar
- A learner enrolled in the Academy.
- Scholars are not customers or students in the ordinary sense. They are members of a working institution — expected to study, produce, defend their work, and hold one another to standard.
- Program · Course · Module · Lesson
- The four-level curricular hierarchy inside each School.
- Programs define career-scale objectives. Courses are the durable units of instruction. Modules organize a course into thematic movements. Lessons are the atomic units — delivered in ten canonical modalities from Video to Capstone.
- Credential
- Verifiable evidence of mastery.
- Credentials advance in four stages: Foundation, Practitioner, Fellow, and Master. Each is earned through examined work — coursework, labs, peer review, and oral defense — and recorded in a public, verifiable portfolio.
- Lab
- An applied workspace where scholars produce original work.
- Labs are the practicum of the Academy. Every Lab issues a defensible artifact — a paper, model, protocol, or system — submitted for peer review and, where required, oral defense before faculty.
- Ecosystem
- The institutions built beneath Anabasis.
- The Ecosystem is the family of operating institutions — each dedicated to one dimension of capability, each intended to endure beyond the tenure of its founders.
