Volume IV

Leadership

Leadership is the willingness to be accountable for the whole.

Manifesto
§ I
  1. I

We are building an institution, not a company. The difference is measured in decades.

  2. II

We take our timescales from architecture, not from software. We assume our work will be inherited.

  3. III

We regard human capability as the compounding asset of the species and organize every decision around raising its floor.

  4. IV

We prefer the private root to the public act. Character is prior to competence.

  5. V

We refuse motivational culture, hustle culture, influencer culture, and hype. We regard them as noise.

  6. VI

We accept responsibility for outcomes we did not personally cause. This is the working definition of leadership.

  7. VII

We say what is true, in the plainest available language, and no more.

  8. VIII

We build for people we will never meet.
