Assignment: Design an automation

For a real process, submitted with a measurement plan.

Assignment

Design an automation for a real workflow in your work or life. Apply the four-quadrant test, sketch the reference architecture, specify the HITL design, and estimate the payback period.

Deliverables

  • A one-page problem statement with the current workflow and its cost.
  • The four-quadrant analysis and the go/no-go decision.
  • A block diagram of the proposed architecture.
  • The HITL design with the three questions answered.
  • A payback estimate: implementation cost, monthly savings, break-even month.

Rubric

  • The problem statement is specific enough to be built.
  • The four-quadrant analysis honestly considers elimination.
  • The HITL design has a defensible fallback.
  • The payback estimate includes maintenance, not just implementation.

Applied work, submitted through your Scholar portfolio.
