A research workflow with AI: define the question, gather sources (search + AI-assisted discovery), read and extract with AI assistance, synthesize with AI drafts, verify every claim manually. AI accelerates the boring stages; it does not replace the thinking.
- 01Structure a five-stage research workflow.
- 02Recognize which stages AI accelerates and which it must not replace.
- 03State the verification rule.
The workflow
1. Question: written by you, refined by discussion with AI. 2. Discovery: search tools + AI-suggested related work. 3. Extraction: AI-assisted note-taking with source citations. 4. Synthesis: AI first-draft, human revision. 5. Verification: every citation opened and checked by hand.
The verification rule
Trust nothing an AI cited that you have not opened. AIs invent citations, misattribute quotes, and paraphrase inaccurately in ways that read plausibly. The verification stage is not optional; skipping it produces confidently wrong research.
- AI accelerates discovery, extraction, and drafting.
- Verification is human work; every citation is opened.
