Learning with AI

The Feynman method, augmented.

Summary

The Feynman method — explain a concept simply and identify where your explanation breaks down — augmented by AI. Ask the AI to quiz you, to spot gaps in your explanations, to generate analogies. The point is to accelerate learning, not to substitute for it.

Objectives
  • 01Structure a Feynman session with AI as tutor.
  • 02Recognize when AI explanations are wrong.
  • 03State the pattern for learning technical material.
The Lesson

The session

1. Explain the concept to the AI in your own words. 2. Ask it to spot gaps and misconceptions. 3. Iterate until the explanation is complete. 4. Ask for 3-5 quiz questions of increasing difficulty. 5. Answer without looking. 6. Grade. Repeat over spaced intervals.

The verification

AI explanations at the edge of a field are often wrong in confident-sounding ways. Cross-reference against primary sources for anything you plan to use professionally. Learning-time tolerance for wrong information is higher than production-time; still, verify.

Key Ideas
  • Feynman + AI = accelerated technical learning.
  • Verify explanations at the edge of the field against primary sources.
